    FIRE PREVENTION WEEK OCT. 3-9

Assistant Fire Chief Cody Foss shares with us that it is that time a year again for the Kaukauna Fire Department’s annual fire prevention classes and station tours. Fire prevention week this year runs from October 3rd through October 9th . The theme for this year is Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety. After taking a break because of the COVID pandemic we are happy to announce that the Kaukauna Fire Department will be offering in person fire prevention classes at your school. Sadly we will not be holding Fire Station Tours this year. The fire department will continue to provide age appropriate classroom materials for each Pre-K through 5th grade class for the teachers to discuss with the students. Homecoming Spirit Sept. 27-Oct. 1!!!

During the week of Sept. 27th-Oct. 1, Electa Quinney Elementary will be celebrating homecoming along with the High School.  To help all of our elementary students to feel a part of the festivities, we will have dress-up days as follows:

Monday, Sept. 27 :  PJ Day
Tuesday, Sept. 28 :   Crazy Sock Day
Wednesday, Sept. 29 :   Sports Theme
      Thursday, Sept. 30 :   Disney/Superhero Day
Friday, Oct. 1 :   Orange/Black Kaukauna Spirit Wear

There will be a parade again this year.  It will take place on Wednesday, September 29 at 6:00 PM.
The decision has being made to not have our Elementary Schools participate in the homecoming parade this year. It is great to be able to have it brought back into play this year, however, it is best for us not to particpate at this time since it is a non essential function for our buildings. Thank you for your understanding.

The Open House requested by PAC members will be a Family Event on Thursday, Oct. 14 from 5:00-6:30.  The date is added to the Staff Sign-up Genius page so add your name to that sign-up if you will be able to attend.  Our plan at this time is...

        i-Ready Diagnostic

Our first window for the iReady Diagnostic is underway and is open through September 30th.  It would be best to start this week, if you have already that is fine as well.  Starting now will allow you plenty of time for students to finish up during independent work time if necessary.  The most important thing we can do is prepare students and motive them to put forth their best effort.

The links below were shared last year.  You will find these helpful in getting started...
Use the Preparing Students for the First Diagnostic PowerPoint® to get students ready for the Diagnostic.
Use the Kit: Get Good Data to review tips and tools and to create your own action plan for preparing students for the Diagnostic and supporting them during the administration.

With this just being year two with iReady, we are still learning together. As I mentioned at the staff meeting last week, please let me know if you have any questions or if you'd like to arrange for me to be in your classroom during your first go at the diagnostic.

        Safety Week is here!

It's KASD Safety Week!  Information and the plan is linked here so that you can refer to it often to make sure you are in the know.   Thank you in advance for your help with making this successful learning and purposeful practice for staff and students.

          Staff Thoughts

Please keep Hayley Wiese and family in your thoughts.  Hayley's mother had been battling illnesses for some time, but became more unwell and hospitalized suddenly.  Hayley flew to New Jersey 9/27 to be with her anticipating a return before school started.  The week took a different turn as her mom and their family learned more of the prognosis.  Hayley will now be on leave for 4 weeks to assist with end stage cancer care of her mother.

Huge thanks go out to Brenda Baranczyk who was able to fill in for Hayley last week.  Brenda will again assist in coverage this week.  Further coverage after that will be in the works.    Thank you for continuing to keep Hayley's mom and family in your thoughts!

          i-Ready Diagnostic

One of our beginning-of-year priorities is to prepare for and administer the i-Ready® Diagnostic. This first Diagnostic is critical to the success of the program. It helps us better understand students’ strengths and areas for growth, but only if that data is accurate. Our first window goes through September 30th.

The most important thing we can do is prepare students and motive them to put forth their best effort.

Here are a few next steps I’d like you to take to ensure we get good data:

Watch this video to learn more about best practices for getting good data and how other educators prepare their students.
Use the Preparing Students for the First Diagnostic PowerPoint® to get students ready for the Diagnostic.
Use the Kit: Get Good Data to review tips and tools and to create your own action plan for preparing students for the Diagnostic and supporting them during the administration.

Thank you again for all your hard work and commitment to the Diagnostic!  We are learning together. As always, let me know if you have any questions or if you'd like to arrange for me to be in your classroom during your first go at the diagnostic.

SAFETY WEEK is next week, Sept. 13-17

Mark your calendars to anticipate safety week during Sept. 13-17.  Specific information on dates, drills, and times will be shared with you this week.

Catch those Cougars doing great things!

Continue to put those Cougar Character Coins into action!!!  The monthly PBIS prizes will be on the announcements this week so as students begin to collect 5 they can trade them in for a ticket.  Thank you to ALL of you for watching our kiddos and catching those positive choices and character traits that they are displaying. We appreciate you recognizing them by mentioning to their classroom teacher that the child should receive Cougar Coins. It’s a TEAM effort!

          NEW -- Open House - Sept. 21st

At our August PAC meeting the parents requested another opportunity to come in school and see their child's classroom and the school since there has been such limited access over the past year and a half.  We set the date of September 21st 5:30-7:00 p.m.  This is not required, just voluntary. Please sign up on the Staff Volunteer Sign-up Genius link if you'd like to volunteer some of your time to be at the Open House.  This can also give us an opportunity to showcase other great parts of our school such as PBIS and more.
